MASSACHUSETTS — A woman is now in custody and facing murder charges after her two young children were found dead in their Wellesley home this past weekend.
Meanwhile, new DNA technology helped crack two cases of serious crimes more than 30 years ago.
Plus, an award-winning restaurant chain is expanding its footprint with two new locations coming soon in the state.
MA Mom Charged With Murder After 2 Children Found Dead In Family Home
Janette R. MacAusland, 49, was in the midst of a divorce and custody battle with her husband when the children's bodies were discovered. Officers were asked to conduct a welfare check after MacAusland arrived at a family home in Vermont, highly distraught, bleeding, and with a visible neck injury. After speaking with MacAusland, Bennington police then requested her home in Wellesley be checked on. The children’s bodies were discovered 45 minutes later. The six and seven year-old were in kindergarten and second grade, respectively, at Schofield Elementary School.
1990s Brockton Murder And Rape Cases Cracked
Brockton resident Robert Carey was identified as the killer of Cherie Bishop and the rapist of Donna Bell. Samples taken from the two women's sexual assault kits were uploaded into the FBI's criminal justice DNA database and a link was made between the two cases. Carey lived within one-half mile of both crimes at the time of the incidents, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. Bishop was 28 when she was found strangled to death in Mulberry Park in June 1991. She was nude and had been sexually assaulted. Bell was grabbed by a man driving a van as she walked along Annis Avenue less than two years later.

Peabody Restaurant Extends Opening Amid 'Outpouring Of Love'
Owner Emil Sepulveda said last week that the restaurant would be closing after 10 years in Peabody because of the challenges associated with ongoing road work and detours on Central Street, where it is located. However, he said an outpouring of kind words and support from the community has led him to keep the establishment open through Cinco de Mayo. The business is slated to be temporarily moved to Lynn while a new Peabody location is explored.
