Big changes could be coming to a Walmart near you as the company plans a major remodeling campaign across Massachusetts and the country.

The company said it plans to remodel 13 Bay State stores this year — expanding its assortment of healthy foods, affordable "on-trend" items, and enhancing the in-store and online experience.

"Our stores have long been part of communities across Massachusetts, and we're excited to keep investing in their future," said Annie Walker, Walmart Senior Vice President, in a report on Businesswire. "By modernizing our stores, we're making shopping faster, easier, and more convenient, all while empowering our teams to serve customers better and creating local opportunity.

"We're proud of our legacy here and look forward to helping families save money, time, and live better every day."

The following stores are set to be remodeled under the current campaign:

Executives said the remodeling is part of a $180 million investment in Massachusetts stores over the past five years, including $8 million in donations from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local nonprofits.

The goal of the investment is to offer "faster, more convenient shopping and delivery in as little as an hour for most customers" as well as enhancing the in-store experience with more brand names, free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ customers, a store-based app that helps customers "easily navigate through stores," and book services at Walmart's Auto Center.

"The result is a more intuitive, convenient experience that helps customers shop how they want, when they want," the company said.

The Bay State efforts are part of a nationwide project to remodel more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year.
