Heavy Rain To Bring Major Weather Change For MA

While temperatures will be stuck in the low 50s on Friday, it could heat up to near 90 degrees early next week.

| Updated

Bay State residents could be going from turning up the heat to cranking the ACs in a matter of days, as three days of chilly, raw and rainy weather make way for an extended shot of sudden summer.

While temperatures will struggle to get out of the 40s and low 50s on Friday, they could threaten 90 degrees by Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Before summertime heat arrives next week, there is one more blast of March-like weather to endure, with rain heavy at times on Thursday and a day for the heavy jackets and pellet stoves on Friday.

There could be an inch or more of rain across much of the region on Thursday, with a high of 59 degrees. Cities and towns that get stuck in downpours may deal with flooding in poor drainage areas.

Rain was to continue heavy overnight before waning Friday morning and early Friday afternoon.

Even though it will not be wet at all times on Friday, it could be downright cold with temperatures stuck in the 40s and low 50s, along with a persistent northeast wind.

But things are set to change in a big way starting Saturday as the wind switches around to the west and temperatures soar into the 70s under sunny skies.

That will be the start of a major pattern switch with warm temperatures, mostly sunny skies, and the chance for thunderstorms for the next week.

The NWS is forecasting sunny skies and a high of 79 degrees on Sunday, a mostly sunny day with a high of 71 degrees on Monday, and a sizzler on Tuesday with temperatures well into the 80s and a heat index that will likely be near 90 degrees.
