The Massachusetts State Lottery is marking America’s 250th anniversary with a new scratch ticket that leans into the state’s Revolutionary roots.

“The Lottery is proud to offer a fun and exciting way for players to celebrate 250 years of freedom and opportunity,” State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, said in a statement. “This special ticket honors our nation’s history and the important role Massachusetts played in achieving independence.”

The Lottery said MA 250 has the highest payout percentage for a $5 ticket in the agency's history. The game will also include four second-chance drawings, with 600 $250 prizes awarded.

At the end of the game, all eligible second-chance entries will be included in a final bonus drawing. Four participants will be selected to attend a live event, where one person will win $250,000 and the other three will each receive $10,000.

A Revolutionary Look

The ticket itself is full of state history cues. The upper portion features red, white and blue fireworks with the official MA 250 logo. A “1776 Bonus” spot gives players an automatic $250 prize if they reveal a “1776” symbol.

The scratch area shows a nighttime scene of Paul Revere on his ride, lantern included, with historic tall ships in the background.

“We are thrilled to introduce this ticket to all of our players across the Commonwealth,” Mass Lottery Executive Director Mark William Bracken said in a statement. “Massachusetts has always been a trailblazer in this country, so it’s very fitting that we honor this exciting milestone with such a monumental ticket.”

The Lottery also plans to hold pop-up events at historic locations across Massachusetts this summer tied to the launch. Free promotional tickets with guaranteed prizes of $1, $2 or $5 will be distributed at those events, with locations to be announced later.
