Rain is expected to peak on Wednesday with multiple downpours and the potential for a deluge in areas where heavy bands of rain set up and linger for hours.

The NWS said there is a medium risk for flooding across much of the Bay State — especially in urban and poor-drainage areas.

Rain should arrive after 2 p.m. on Tuesday in what will otherwise be a warm and muggy day with a high of 84 degrees.

Tuesday night will feature scattered showers before rain becomes more persistent on Wednesday morning. The NWS said there will be a strong East wind gusting to 25 mph and highs holding in the lower 70s.

The chance of rain on Wednesday is 90 percent.

Rain is forecast to linger into Thursday as the storm stalls near New England with a cool wind out of the Northeast and a high of 74 degrees.

Conditions should slowly improve heading into the weekend with a 30 percent chance of rain on Friday and mostly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday.
