The destinations all offer family-friendly access to sand and water without the cost and complications of an overseas trip. They differ in setting, accommodations and pace, ranging from calm ocean beaches and full-service resorts to lakeside campgrounds and more luxurious coastal retreats.
Nantucket is one of the wealthiest communities in Massachusetts and is only accessible by ferry or flight, as the island is located 30 miles off the coast of the state. However, the luxury location does have offerings for families and children.
