Tourists Call This MA Restaurant A ‘Hidden Gem’

Part of the joy of traveling is finding delicious food along the way. One Massachusetts restaurant stand out, according to a travel platform's ranking based on diner reviews.

Tripadvisor's Travel]ers' Choice Awards represent the "best of the best" in several categories. Of the restaurants in the hidden gems, Traveladvisor said, "You have to get a bit off the beaten path to find these spots, but they certainly earn their winner status in both taste and local charm."

One of the 20 restaurants ranked in the hidden gems category are in Massachusetts:

"Bricco draws you in with its lively energy and sleek bar scene, perfect for a late night. You'll find a big wine list and one-of-a-kind cocktails," Tripadvisor said in its ranking. "Try the brick oven pizza—toppings are a serious highlight—and don't skip the appetizers. Staff know their stuff and love sharing thoughtful recommendations. Complimentary bread is a nice touch."

Bricco has operated on Hanover Street in Boston's North End for more than two decades. The Italian restaurant is owned by longtime restaurateur Frank DePasquale, who first entered the neighborhood's restaurant industry with the opening of Il Panino in 1987 and has since opened several other businesses in the area. Bricco opened in the early 2000s at 241 Hanover St., where DePasquale had previously operated a restaurant called Vado Pazzo. The business later expanded with Bricco Panetteria, which opened behind the restaurant in 2011, and Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shoppe, which followed nearby several years later. DePasquale also operates several other North End restaurants, including Mare, Quattro and Aqua Pazza.

Tripadvisor said the "best of the best" title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel. It's awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from Tripadvisor users over 12 months. Out of the site's 8 million listings, fewer than 1 percent achieve this milestone.
