PHOTOS: Nor'easter Batters New England Coast

A slow moving storm swept across the New England coast this weekend bringing high winds, power outages and heavy rain.

ACROSS MASSACHUSETTS-- A powerful nor'easter swept across the New England coast over the weekend. The high winds and rainfall brought power outages, flooding and dangerous rip currents to the area.

Hundreds of flights were canceled at Boston Logan International Airport over the weekend. The vast majority of flights cancelled were to popular tourist destinations like Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Embattled pop star, Ed Sheeran's concerts at Gillette stadium were also forced to be cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Even with the bad weather, it still did not stop surfers from catching high waves along the Atlantic ocean. Sports spectators also braved the rain to watch the Boston College and Virginia Tech football game in Chestnut Hill.

Nor'easters are not unlikely during the fall season in New England, but "this might be a little earlier than average for a big storm," said Bob Oravec, of the National Weather Service.

The slow progression of the storm and prolonged period of strong winds could cause beach erosion along the coast.
