BOSTON, MA — A major marketplace is adding thousands of workers across Massachusetts as the company prepares for the holiday shopping season.
Amazon plans to hire approximately 6,000 seasonal, part-time and full-time employees across the state, the company announced Tuesday. The openings include about 3,000 jobs in Greater Boston and 1,950 in the Worcester area.
Seasonal employees earn an average of $20 per hour, according to Amazon. The company said many seasonal workers may have an opportunity to transition into full-time positions.
"The holidays bring a special energy across our Massachusetts operations, and we're glad to be welcoming thousands of new teammates this season," Jonathan Greeley, Amazon's principal for economic development in New England, said in a statement.
The Massachusetts positions are part of more than 300,000 seasonal, part-time and full-time jobs Amazon plans to fill across its U.S. operations network for the holiday season.
Amazon supports more than 24,000 full- and part-time employees in Massachusetts, according to a company economic impact report. The company said it has invested more than $35 billion in the state since 2010 and contributed more than $30 billion to the Massachusetts economy.
Openings will be posted on a rolling basis through December and may fill quickly. Applicants can search for positions at Amazon's local jobs website or text NEWJOB to 31432 for job alerts.
