'Bittersweet': Major MA Retailer To Close Store 'Very Quickly'

AUBURN, MA — Harte's Home Furniture & Mattress Store has announced it will close soon.

Its website advertises a "floor model mattress sell-off" along with discounts of up of 40% off this weekend.

The store opened three years ago following the closing of Rotmans Furniture, according to a statement posted on Harte's website.

"We knew there would be a hole left in the area without Rotmans and we wanted to continue to support our community," the statement reads.

The store is located at 771 Washington St. in Auburn.

The news comes as the building is being sold which is requiring Harte's to close "very quickly," though a specific closing date was not mentioned.

Harte's said that all customers with existing orders will have those fulfilled.

Plans for what will happen to the space are already in the works.

"While we are sad about the closing of Harte's Home, the ending is bittersweet," the statement reads. "The building has been sold to a company that operates their furniture store with the same goals and will take good care of its customers and be a great partner for the community."
