MASSACHUSETTS — A veteran firefighter died while fighting a fire in a three-story home in a Boston suburb, and a man was killed after his car was struck by a train during a dangerous attempt to cross the tracks this past weekend.

The incident took place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, when the driver of the black Jeep Cherokee attempted to go around the safety gates as warning lights signaled the train's approach. The vehicle was then struck by the train and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boston Firefighter Dies After Falling From 3rd Floor Of Dorchester Home

Robert Kilduff Jr. suffered severe injuries after falling from the third floor of the home while battling the blaze on Saturday, May 23. Firefighters attacked the blaze from both the outside of the house and the interior and had the fire knocked down in about 20 minutes. Kilduff worked for the Boston Fire Department for 24 years after serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Child Bitten By Raccoon At Wayland Town Beach

The two-year-old was taken to the hospital on Sunday, where he received appropriate medical treatment. Officers searched the area after the incident but were unable to locate the raccoon. According to the boy’s family, their son was on an afternoon playdate on Friday with his nanny when the incident occurred. Anyone who encounters the animal or sees suspicious wildlife behavior is asked to contact the Wayland Police Department.

5 Arrested After Fight In Dorchester Courthouse

Five men aged 20 and younger are facing charges after a brawl at Dorchester District Court. Surveillance video shows punches being thrown as an unsuspecting man on a bench runs to get out of danger. Another angle shows a man in a black hood lunging toward another man while the latter was not looking. Court officers ran in, trying to break up the fight as it spilled down the hallway, and tackled the man who threw the first punch.

2 People Transported To Hospital After Early Morning Melrose House Fire

Crews responded to the scene on 65 Heywood Ave. at approximately 2:25 a.m. to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the single-floor, single-family residence. The nine firefighters who responded to the two-alarm blaze had the flames knocked down by 4:40 a.m. The two residents were awoken by alarms in their home and have been hospitalized for smoke inhalation treatment.

The new ranking from the U.S. News and World Report looks at value, desirability, job markets, and the quality of life in cities. It also bases its selections on a public survey that asked thousands of U.S. residents what they consider important in choosing a place to live and its own reporting, as well as data from the Labor Bureau, Census Bureau, FBI, FEMA, and NOAA. The Massachusetts city ranked 116th on the national list.
