What Grocery Stores Are Open In MA On Thanksgiving In 2022

MASSACHUSETTS — If you need ingredients for Thanksgiving this year, you're going to have to wrap up your shopping on Wednesday.

Massachusetts is a tough state for last-minute ingredient runs on holidays like Thanksgiving. The state's "blue laws" restrict who can work on holidays, and so many grocery stores may choose not to open — and that includes major chains like Stop & Shop and Market Basket.

However, state laws do allow grocery stores to open that have three or fewer employees — that means your local corner store might be open on the holiday. State law also exempts pharmacies from the holiday labor law. The law also exempts businesses like hotels, gas stations and restaurants.

The state does not allow alcohol to be sold on either Thanksgiving or Christmas, even if the store is small.

Here's a rundown of large grocery and convenience store chains in Massachusetts and what their hours (if any) are on Thanksgiving:

Aldi — All locations closed on Thanksgiving.

BJ's — All locations closed on Thanksgiving.

Costco — All locations closed on Thanksgiving.

CVS — Many CVS Pharmacy locations, including 24-hour locations, will be open regular hours. Some pharmacies may have reduced hours or be closed for the holiday.

H-Mart — The Korean grocery giant says its three Massachusetts stores in Quincy, Cambridge and Burlington will be open starting at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Hannaford — All locations closed on Thanksgiving.

Market Basket — All locations closed on Thanksgiving.

Price Chopper/Market 32 — All locations closed on Thanksgiving.

Shaw's — All locations closed Thanksgiving, but most reopen at 6 a.m. Friday.

Target — All locations closed Thanksgiving.

Trader Joe's — All locations closed Thanksgiving.

Walgreens — Some stores and 24-hour pharmacies will be open during regular business hours. Select pharmacies will be open with modified hours. Customers are encouraged to check their local store hours before heading out.

Walmart — All locations closed Thanksgiving.
