Here's How Much Your Thanksgiving Turkey Will Cost In MA
The average cost of a Thanksgiving turkey is a little higher in Massachusetts than it is in other parts of the country. Here's what to know.
MASSACHUSETTS — The centerpiece of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner won’t cost as much as last year in Massachusetts due to a 12 percent decrease nationwide in turkey prices.
On average, Americans will pay $31.16, or an average of $2.08 a pound, for a 15-pound turkey this year, according to an analysis by the online financial guidance company FinanceBuzz, which looked at the cost of a turkey in every state.
A 15-pound bird in Massachusetts costs about $33.85. That’s about $3.69 above the national average.

Due to the high cost of transporting goods to their states, residents of Hawaii and Alaska pay the most for a Thanksgiving turkey, but in the contiguous U.S., California has the highest average price at $39.85. The cheapest turkey prices are in Oklahoma and Louisiana, where consumers can expect to pay less than $20 for a 15-pound bird.
Last year, the national average for a 15-pound turkey was $35.40, or about $2.36 a pound. In 2022, the same size bird would have cost about $35.41, or $2.28 a pound.

FinanceBuzz researchers collected price data on 12- to 26-pound Butterball turkeys at least three grocery stores in each state. In general, those stores were regional chains with multiple locations, rather than individual companies or prominent national chains.
