Here's Where 2 MA Cities Rank Among Country's Safest
A new report analyzes how safe U.S. cities are on everything from public health crises to natural disasters and shootings.

MASSACHUSETTS — Boston ranks No. 33 and Worcester lands at No. 45 in a new analysis of the nation's safest cities. The report comes from personal finance website WalletHub.
The study doesn't only consider crime when weighing which cities are the safest.
"Threats to safety in the U.S. come in many forms, from public health crises and natural disasters to mass shootings and traffic accidents," according to WalletHub. "To determine where Americans can feel most secure, WalletHub compared more than 180 cities across 41 key indicators of safety."

Worcester did rank high in one category: the city boasts some of the best numbers when it comes to health insurance. It was tied for No. 5 in the lowest percentage of uninsured population.
The top five overall safest cities in the U.S., according to the study, are:

- South Burlington, Vermont
- Casper, Wyoming
- Warwick, Rhode Island
- Burlington, Vermont
- Boise, Idaho
The bottom five cities included Memphis, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and New Orleans.
