Here's Where Massachusetts Lands On 'Most Sinful States' Rankings
Is the Bay State a den of iniquity? Or a haven of virtue?

MASSACHUSETTS — When it comes to the seven deadly sins, Massachusetts ranks closer to the bottom.
Or closer to the top, if you're anti-sin.
Massachusetts came in at 38 in WalletHub's list of "Most Sinful States in the U.S." Though in one category, it ranked close to the most sinful.

The study is loosely based on the biblical seven deadly sins and includes the following categories: anger and hatred, jealousy, excess and vices, greed, lust, vanity, and laziness.
How exactly do you determine how vane or lazy a state's residents are? WalletHub said they "compared the 50 states across 55 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior. Our data set ranges from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the share of the population with gambling disorders."

Notably, Massachusetts has one the lowest rates of anger and hatred, ranking 47.
On the flip side, the state ranked sixth in vanity.
Here are the rest of Massachusetts's rankings: 37 in jealousy, 46 in excess and vices, 40 in greed, 41 in lust, and 43 in laziness.
“Although residents of every state have wonderful qualities, people across the nation have their own moral struggles, from violent outbursts and bullying to compulsive gambling, excessive lust and self-destructive consumption," Cassandra Happe, WalletHub analyst, said in the study. "At the individual level, harmful behavior may only impact a few people, but when a higher share of a state’s population engages in these activities, it diminishes the overall quality of life.”

And here are the least sinful states:
- Wyoming
- New Hampshire
- Idaho
- Maine

- Nebraska
- Iowa
- Connecticut
