Local Leaders Selected For Healey's Black Empowerment Council

BOSTON, MA — More than 30 Black leaders from across the state have been selected to serve on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Black Empowerment. Gov. Maura Healey signed an executive order Friday to establish the council.

The council will advise Healey and Lieutenant Gov. Kim Driscoll on issues related to the economic prosperity and wellbeing of Massachusetts’ Black community, including education, health care, housing and workforce development, according to a statement.

Members will be appointed at the first meeting of the council Monday.

“Massachusetts’ Black residents make tremendous contributions to our state, but far too often they face systemic barriers that hold them back from opportunity," Healey said in a statement. "We look forward to working closely with our Advisory Council on Black Empowerment to explore how we can best support our Black community, reduce inequities and expand opportunity for all.”
