MA Kohl's Among List Of Mass Closures

One Massachusetts location is among "underperforming" stores that will shut down, the company announced. Here's where.

KINGSTON, MA — Kohl's department store is shutting down 27 locations nationwide as part of a cost-cutting measure, including one Massachusetts location, the company announced.

The Kingston store, 101 Kingston Collection Way, Suite 1, at Independence Mall, is the only Massachusetts store impacted by the announcement.

"We always take these decisions very seriously," Tom Kingsbury, Kohl's chief executive officer, said in a statement. "As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams."

The closures will go into effect by April 2025.

Kohl's said it told employees at impacted stores of the closures and offered them a "competitive" severance package or invited them to apply to openings at other branches.

Beyond stating that the locations were among a group of underperforming stores, Kohl's did not elaborate further on the closures.
