Major Verizon Outage Ongoing In MA
The outage left thousands without access to voice or data services, according to user reports.
MASSACHUSETTS — A Verizon outage left many unable to make calls or use data across Massachusetts and the nation on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports.
Verizon addressed the issue with a post on X on Wednesday afternoon: "We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly. We understand how important reliable connectivity is and apologize for the inconvenience."
Downdetector, which aggregates user-submitted outage reports, indicated that thousands of users could be affected on Wednesday afternoon.

Downdetector showed that Verizon customers began to report issues with their service around noon. Reports appeared to peak at more than 175,000 by 12:30 p.m. — but still remained elevated later into the afternoon, sitting at nearly 57,000 as of 3:30 p.m.
Impacted users said their phones were in “SOS” mode or had other no signal messages. In cities like New York, alerts were sent out warning that the outage may disrupt 911 calls — urging residents to try landlines and devices from other carriers, if available, or visit a local police or fire station in-person in case of an emergency.

A handful of outage reports for other carriers also bubbled up on Wednesday — but companies like T-Mobile and AT&T quickly confirmed online that their services were operating normally. Both suggested that their customers may be encountering issues contacting people with Verizon's service, however.
