Messy Stretch In MA As Late Weekend Snow Looms: See Forecast

A messy mix of rain, drizzle, fog and possible icy conditions at times will precede the next significant storm later on Sunday.

While still days away, there are indications that a storm Sunday night could start as rain and end as snow for the Monday morning commute across much of Massachusetts.

MASSACHUSETTS — A messy stretch of weather will bring more rain than snow and ice — with temperatures peaking into the 50s on Thursday and Friday — before a more significant and potentially much more wintry storm moves into the region late in the weekend.

After many across the state got hit with an inch or two of heavy wet snow overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, it should be mostly rain later Wednesday night and Thursday morning with temperatures rising into the 50s by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Those looking for a taste of spring may get it on Friday as another swath of rain is expected to clear out in the morning — paving the way for some possible sunshine in the afternoon as the temperatures again near the low 50s.

But the April feel will be short-lived with a cloudy day with highs in the lower 40s forecast for Saturday before rain arrives once again Saturday night into Sunday.

That sets up New England for a more significant storm later Sunday that could include a mix of rain and snow.

According to the NWS, rain is likely before 9 p.m. with a rain/snow line setting up somewhere across southern New England into the overnight.

The storm could negatively affect the Monday morning commute for much of the region with cold air rushing in as the storm departs and a burst of snow expected throughout the state. Monday morning is forecast to be blustery, with bouts of snow and a low of 24 degrees, with winds howling out of the northwest at 30 miles per hour or greater.

The beginning of next week will be much colder with highs around freezing and the sun emerging later Monday into Tuesday.
