Pembroke Man on Mission to Raise Funds for Alzheimer's Research
Joe Carey recently rode his bike in the Ride to End ALZ to raise funds in honor of his wife, a resident of Bridges by Epoch at Pembroke

PEMBROKE, MA (June 2024) – For Joe Carey, whose wife, Linda, is a resident of Bridges by EPOCH at Pembroke (a memory care assisted living community that’s part of EPOCH Senior Living, a premier provider of exceptional senior living services throughout the Northeast), finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease is a very personal mission.
For over a decade, Linda has battled Alzheimer's. Joe founded Linda's Legion Team in her honor for the 2024 Alzheimer's Association Ride to End ALZ. On June 1st, Joe participated as part of Linda’s Legion Team in the Ride to End ALZ in Portsmouth, NH. Together with his teammates, he pedaled 62 miles for Linda. Joe’s team consisted of family members and friends committed to ride and raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.
“I am determined to go the distance for all those affected by Alzheimer’s. I am inspired by the strength of the more than 6 million Americans living with this disease, and the over 11 million family members and friends who provide them with care. I am also inspired by science,” Joe said. “Right now, there is no shortage of ideas in Alzheimer’s research, only dollars – which is why I am asking for support.”

The five members of the Linda’s Legion team raised $11,492 altogether, with Joe raising $3,681 of the total amount. 90% of the funds raised go toward the Association's efforts to discover methods of treatment and prevention for Alzheimer's and other dementias.

Behind every rider stands a support system. For Joe and Linda, one of those pillars has been

lobby to request donations and a couple of days later the Director told me they
ordered a purple bike to raffle off to support the team," said Joe.
"Our residents and their families truly become our family and it is a heartfelt passion for us to help support them in their fight to end Alzheimer’s in any way that we can," said Lori Luzzo, Senior Executive Director of Bridges by EPOCH at Pembroke.
