MASSACHUSETTS — It has been 80 years since the attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, the action by the Japanese military that lead to the United States' entry into World War II.
A number of soldiers and sailors from Massachusetts were among the 2,403 people killed that day. We list their names here, knowing their sacrifice will not be forgotten.
U.S. Navy
The following 8 Massachusetts men were serving aboard the U.S.S. Arizona when it was destroyed, according to the National Parks Service.

Two men from MA were aboard the U.S.S. West Virginia: Thomas Francis Leary of Hampden County, 25, Fireman First Class and Joseph Sam Leonide Lemire of Worcester County, 24, Seaman First Class.
Aboard the U.S.S. Pennsylvania were Charles M. Braga Jr. of Bristol County, 22, Petty Officer Second Class and Joseph Wilson Pace, of Essex County, 24, Petty Officer Third Class.
Aboard the U.S.S California was Merle C. J. Hillman of Hampden County, Petty Officer Second Class.
Aboard the U.S.S. Nevada was Herman Alder Spear of Essex County, 19, Seaman First Class.
Aboard the U.S.S. Shaw was Joseph Lucian Bernard Gaudrault, of Hampden County, Seaman First Class.
