Plowable Snow Hits MA Ahead Of Fierce Arctic Blast: See Latest Forecast
A widespread 3 inches is forecast with some pockets of higher amounts on the North Shore and South Shore.
Snow showers throughout Saturday could be heavy at times — with prolonged bands of snow pumping up accumulations near the coastline — ahead of an arctic blast that will bring some of the fiercest wind chills of the season this weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a widespread 3 to 4 inches of snow from the showers that will begin early Saturday morning and continue off and on the entire day, according to the NWS.
Some coastal locations will add to that an ocean enhancement that could push totals to 6 inches or higher.

Those higher totals will be isolated, with one city or town getting plowable snow while neighboring communities remain closer to 2 or 3 inches.
The NWS has also issued a Cold Weather Advisory for portions of eastern, northeastern, and southeastern Massachusetts and northern and southern Rhode Island for Saturday night into Sunday. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for central and western Massachusetts.

The advisory begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday and extends through 1 p.m. on Sunday.
"The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken," the NWS said. "Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves."
Sunday will be very cold for those going out for the big Patriots game, with a high of 17 degrees and winds gusting to 31 mph, making it feel well below zero.
Monday will be another cold one — though not quite as bad as Sunday — with a high of 24 degrees and winds whipping to 20 mph, making it feel like the single digits.
There will be another slow moderation in temperature next week with highs creeping up into the mid 30s by Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
