Arctic Blast To Hit MA: Subzero Temperatures Coming

Temperatures are anticipated to plummet late in the week with subzero temperatures possible throughout the state.

MASSACHUSETTS — Relatively balmy temperatures at the beginning of the week will slide toward the end of the week, with subzero temperatures possible by the weekend. Highs will be in the 40s Monday, but lows will drop below zero as arctic air arrives Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

"The big story will be the arrival of arctic air Friday night into Saturday night," the National Weather Service tweeted. "Low temps in the single digits both above and below zero are possible Saturday morning. Even lower wind chills."

According to forecasts, temperatures Friday night could drop to -10 in the Worcester area, and a warmer -6 near Boston.

The beginning of the week is expected to be warm, with highs in the 40s Monday, then dropping into the 30s for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Most of the state is expected to see lows dropping to the single digits Friday, then below zero early Saturday morning. The wind chill will be a factor as well, with blustery conditions and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

There is some good news: the forecast is mostly free of precipitation. There is a chance of rain or snow Sunday.

The freezing temperatures are also expected to be relatively short-lived. Daytime highs should return to the 30s on Sunday.
