MASSACHUSETTS — It's not even June, but it's going to feel a lot like July.

A burst of warm weather will infiltrate Massachusetts this week following a weekend of heavy rain and temperatures in the 50s, according to forecasts.

The week will begin with temperatures in the high 60s in the Boston area, mid-70s or higher in the Worcester area. The Cape will be the coolest part of the state, remaining in the 60-degree range, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday will bring temperatures in the mid-80s or higher for the entire state from Plymouth to Boston to Worcester. The Cape will remain cooler, with temperatures in the upper 60s. The heat will likely peak on Wednesday, with temperatures in the high 80s across much of Massachusetts. Highs will be around 90 in the Connecticut River valley and northern Worcester County, and could cross that line south and east of those areas.

Rain chances will remain pretty low this week — look for a possible thunderstorm Thursday evening — and as of Monday, the Memorial Day weekend is looking sunny and pleasant. But that could always change.

"Today is the cornerstone of a pattern change towards more mild conditions, though clouds and cool temperatures will still hang across the Cape. Much milder conditions Tuesday, with heat peaking on Wednesday. Frontal passage Thursday, with increased thunderstorm
chances, will usher in more seasonable temperatures for the holiday weekend," the National Weather Service said in a forecast Monday morning.
