Trader Joe's Recalls Additional 10M Pounds Of Frozen Food Item Sold In MA

Nearly 47 million pounds of food are now affected by an ongoing recall that includes multiple products sold at Trader Joe's and Kroger stores in Massachusetts. The items are being recalled over concerns that they may be contaminated with bits of glass.

The recall by Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. was initially announced last month, but it was expanded on Friday to include an additional 9,885,240 pounds (or nearly 412,000 cases) of Trader Joe's vegetable fried rice.

According to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the product bears item #5650233 and UPC #00521482. Best-by date ranges are listed here.

The FDA said the product was distributed in 43 states, including Massachusetts.

The initial recall announced on Feb. 19 affected more than 3 million pounds of frozen food products sold at Trader Joe’s, including chicken fried rice sold in 20-ounce plastic bag packages. The product was shipped to stores nationwide. Labels can be viewed here.

The recall was expanded on March 16 to include more than 33.6 million additional pounds of chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai dumplings, according to the FDA.

The expansion included 16 products made between Oct. 21, 2024, and Feb. 26, 2026, under brand names Trader Joe's, Kroger, Ajinomoto, Ling Ling and Tai Pei. Among the Trader Joe's items included in the recall is the brand's popular chicken fried rice.

The products have best-by dates ranging from Feb. 28, 2026, through Aug. 19, 2027, and bear establishment numbers P-18356, P-18356B or P-47971 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items were shipped to retail locations nationwide. View product labels here.

“The problem was discovered when the establishment notified FSIS that it received multiple consumer complaints involving glass found in the product,” the Food Safety and Inspection Service said in its announcement.

No injuries have been reported to date.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to eat them, officials said. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
