Will Rain Dampen New Year's Eve Fireworks In MA?
Cities and towns including Boston have First Night fireworks planned for Tuesday. Could rain dampen those events?
MASSACHUSETTS — Could the Bay State be ringing in the New Year with rain? It's possible, the National Weather Service forecast says.
Cities and towns across the state, including in Boston, Foxborough and on Cape Cod, have First Night fireworks displays on the agenda for New Year's Eve.
The NWS forecast shows a chance for rain from 6 to 9 p.m., though that chance is below 30 percent in each of those areas.

In both the Boston and Hyannis areas, a 10 percent chance of rain at 6 p.m. rises to 25 percent by 9 p.m., but that clears the fireworks displays of a hefty likelihood of rain.
In the Providence metro, a 15 percent chance of rain at 6 p.m. rises to 35 percent at 9 p.m., but again doesn't clear the 40 percent mark on Tuesday night.

Those who plan to attend these outdoor celebrations should have another reason for joy, as the temperatures across New England are above 40 degrees during the scheduled display times.
New Year's Day will also provide temperatures in the mid-40s across Massachusetts, though rain will likely head into the area between midnight and 3 a.m., making fireworks viewing easy, but potentially causing a wet ride home for those out into the first morning of 2025.
