Acton Sets Up Hurricane Shelter if Need Be
Food, water, and batteries... we've heard it all a thousand times over and over, but where do you go for shelter if Hurricane Irene becomes a worst-case scenario?

According to Gail Sawyer, Acton's Deputy Director of the Acton Emergency Management Agency, the , located on 50 Audubon Drive, will provide a safe shelter spot for those in need. People will receive a phone call on their home-phone or registered cell-phone to inform them that the shelter is operational. If Irene gets really bad, the will drive around the neighborhoods of Acton to inform and help people.
What To Bring:
- Don't forget your medications. In most emergency situations, we're all running around doing two things at once and it's easy to forget the important stuff.
- Bring your own food. It won't be a BBQ, so all non-perishable food items are good.
- Don't forget your own linens, clothes and personal hygiene products.
- Bring your own entertainment - from puzzles to iPads.
- Pets are allowed but are to be caged.
According to Sawyer, "we could set up another emergency shelter in under a half hour if we need to."
