LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Come to Town Meeting

An open letter from Franny Osman.

Dear fellow Acton voters and neighbors,

If you have never been to Town Meeting, you have a treat in store. You get to debate the everyday issues with your neighbors, schools, nursing, public transportation, our , ambulance, historic preservation, and lots more. You get to represent yourself in government.

The Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee sit on stage, with the Town Manager, Clerk, and Counsel nearby for support, and everyone else is in the audience of the high school auditorium speaking from microphones. All are kept in order and simultaneously entertained by our , also on stage.

I once asked a very active and vocal Actonian how it felt that Town Meeting had repeatedly overwhelmingly voted the other way than he had argued. He told me that he grew up in a country without these freedoms that we enjoy: to vote, to speak our mind. He welcomes and celebrates his freedom to do so. I do, too.

Please join us on Monday, April 2, Tuesday, April 3, and likely April 4 or longer. Line up the babysitter for multiple nights. Call for the (as soon as you read this, because they need to plan it, (978-844-6809). See you there!
