NARA Getting a Name Change? What Do You Think?

The Board of Selectmen have scheduled Monday, June 18, to discuss the proposal from Assistant Town Manager John Murray to rename NARA Park (North Acton Recreational Area) to the Nathaniel Allen Recreational Area.

Who is Nathaniel Allen? According to Murray, Allen lived in Acton with his sister and was awarded the Medal of Honor on March 29, 1899, for his actions during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. Allen was laid to rest at Acton's Woodlawn Cemetery.

Not too much of a name change; everyone will still call the place NARA Park. If the name change does pass, Murray would like to have the ceremony during Acton's 2012 Veterans Day celebration.
