Andover's Alex Hanscom in 'Assassins'

Performances August 7 – 9, 2015 Tickets On Sale Now

Boston Children’s Theatre (BCT) proudly presents the Stephen Sondheim musical ASSASSINS featuring 18-year old Alex Hanscom of Andover. ASSASSINS will be performed August 7, 8 and 9 at Shore Country Day School in Beverly, MA.

Cast in the role of ‘John Wilkes Booth,’ Alex has appeared in BCT’s critically acclaimed productions of The Diary of Anne Frank as ‘Otto Frank,’ and The Addams Family as ‘Gomez Addams.’ Alex has also performed with Andover High School in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and has played ‘Donkey’ in Shrek with ACT Andover. Alex is a recent graduate of New England Academy.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman, ASSASSINS tells the story of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, the musical takes audiences on a roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.

“Producing Assassins is an example of what BCT does best,” remarked Burgess Clark, BCT Executive Artistic Director. “We produce theater that entertains, yet educates and challenges our audiences. We never shy away from exposing our audiences to a unique array of musical genres. By introducing our students to the introspective and distinctive sound of Stephen Sondheim, we are able to further broaden their view of the many forms musical theater can take. It’s thrilling to experience this journey with them this summer.”

Directed by Clark with Musical Direction by Austin Davy, ASSASSINS features 18 young actors and will be performed at Shore Country Day School, 545 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA. Performances are Friday, August 7 at 8 pm, Saturday, August 8 at 2 pm, and Sunday, August 9 at 8 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students. For tickets and information, visit www.bostonchildrenstheatre.org or call 617-424-6634, x222. ASSASSINS is supported by BCT’s 2015 Presenting Sponsor WGBH and is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
