• Federal Grant To Fund Double Tracking, Andover Station Upgrades On Haverhill Line (andovermanews.com) — A major federal grant will fund double-tracking and significant upgrades at Andover and Ballardvale commuter rail stations, plus safety improvements along the Haverhill Line. Andover will see new high-level platforms, fencing, and elimination of the Tewksbury Street grade crossing, changes expected to reduce delays and improve safety for local riders and drivers.
   

• Aug. 14-16 Public Safety Notebook: Sleeping Husband Sparks Concern, Hit-And-Run Snaps Pole And Police Investigate Gunfire (andovermanews.com subscription) — Andover residents can see what kept local police busy over the Aug. 14–16 weekend, from a harmless scare over a sleeping husband to a hit-and-run OUI arrest and an assault sending a man to the hospital. Officers also investigated reports of gunfire near Shattuck Road and recovered what appeared to be a fake gun from the Shawsheen River.
