An initial investigation found that Sweeney was speeding in an Acura MDX at 10:45 p.m. on Route 28.

His car crashed into a Honda HR-V that was stopped at a red light.

The Honda became engulfed in flames following the accident.

First responders and a Good Samaritan attempted to get the occupants out of the car but two victims, a man and a minor, died at the scene of the crash.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the statement from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and North Reading Chief of Police Mark Zimmerman.

Sweeney will be arraigned Monday in Woburn District Court.

Andover Public Schools released a statement regarding an incoming third grade South School student who was a passenger in a fatal car accident in North Reading on Saturday night.

"We extend our deepest condolences and support to the victims and their family," Superintendent Keith Taverna said in a statement. "We understand that this loss may bring a range of emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school community."

The district's crisis support team is being made available to students, staff and families.
