Fall Reuse & Recycle Donation Drive in celebration of Second Hand September

As part of their Second Hand September Celebration, Essex County Habitat for Humanity's ReStore, along with three event partners, will be hosting its semi-annual ReUse & ReCycle Donation Drive.

Start putting aside unwanted homegoods, scrap metal, children's clothing baby equipment, books and CDs to donate in this drive-thru collection on Saturday, September 19 from 10am – 1pm. Donations of these items will benefit the ReStore, Community Giving Tree, Bay State Books and Windfield Recycling.

Second Hand September promotes buying second hand – and in order to make that possible these organizations rely on an inventory of donated items.

"The entire second hand process makes so much sense – not only does buying second hand save you money, but donating your good stuff to be sold again gives it a second life and keeps it out of a landfill, says ReStore Director Jim Kapelson. "Donating is so much easier than selling them yourself and may even be tax deductible."

A new partner this year, Community Giving Tree, offers a responsible way to pass along the clothes your children grow out of each year, as well as baby equipment you no long use.

Cars should pull into the back parking lot of the Habitat ReStore, located at 647 Andover Street in Lawrence, by turning from Andover Street onto Shepard Street and taking a left into the lot. There will be a greeter there to direct donors how to proceed through the one way set up. Runners will remove donations from vehicles and, if there are more than one type of donation, direct drivers to next station.

Stephanie Dinunzio of Community Giving Tree adds "We are proud to be introducing children's essentials as a new donation category through this partnership. These donations will directly

support children and families in our community by helping provide critical items that promote their well-being, dignity, and ability to thrive."
