ANDOVER, MA — A Lawrence man is expected to appear in Lawrence District Court on Wednesday to face charges, including OUI and leaving the scene of a crash, after he was accused of causing and then fleeing a rush-hour pileup on Route 93 in Andover on Tuesday morning.
State Police said the three-vehicle crash happened on Route 93 North near Dascomb Road in Andover at about 6:45 a.m. Two lanes were closed for more than an hour — backing up traffic for miles — during the height of the morning commute.
Police said an investigation indicated that a driver was changing lanes when the vehicle hit both a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck.
Police said the driver who struck the other two vehicles attempted to run from the crash scene and was quickly found by patrols.
Evan Payne, 29, of Lawrence, will be in court to face charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, marked lane violations, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating under the influence.
Payne was released on bail on Tuesday.
