ANDOVER, MA — Andover Sustainability is partnering with Black Earth Compost to host the town's first Pumpkin Smash at the Rec Park parking lot.
The Nov. 3 event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon and is open to residents who want to bring their Halloween pumpkins for disposal.
There is no school in Andover Public Schools on that day due to Election Day.
Residents will have a chance to smash their pumpkins before Black Earth Compost collects them. The pumpkins will then be turned into nutrient-rich compost as part of the event's sustainability focus.
The town is asking participants to prepare pumpkins before arriving. Residents should remove all candles, glitter and paint before bringing pumpkins to the site.
In addition to the pumpkin collection, the event will offer a few other activities tied to post-Halloween waste reduction and local outreach. Participants can enjoy cider and donuts, recycle Halloween candy wrappers and learn more about local sustainability initiatives.
The event marks the first Pumpkin Smash hosted by the town through the partnership between Andover Sustainability and Black Earth Compost.
