Andover officials to meet with Town unions to revisit health insurance decision
Controversy continues from Andover Town Meeting health insurance vote: Conflict of interest exposed
Will the meeting be public?
A meeting has been scheduled for next Wednesday, May 28th at 3:30 PM between the Town Leadership and the Public Employee Committee (called PEC, made up of the Town's union representatives) to give one final opportunity to save Andover residents and employees $1 million by simply changing from Blue Cross to Tufts Health Plan. This is no time for closed door meetings and back room deals. This meeting should be an open meeting with full transparency for residents, elected officials, and the media.
The Town Manager should recuse himself due to his conflict of interest. We learned this week that Town Manager Stapczynski sits on the MIIA board, the group that offered the higher-cost Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan. The Andover Townsman covers this issue in detail in this week's paper: Health insurance pact faces scrutiny-Town manager under fire amid call to renegotiate.
We thank Selectman Mary O'Donoghue for her leadership on this issue. And thanks to all of you who sent emails to our Town Leaders. They got the message loud and clear that Andover taxpayers expect results.
