Andover Fire Puts Out Two Alarm Fire In Multi-Family Home

Four area departments responded Thursday night to the scene of a fire at 10 Temple Place.

ANDOVER, MA — Andover Fire Rescue put out a two alarm fire in a multi-family home at 10 Temple Place, Thursday night.

The department responded to a call from a resident around 3:40 p.m., Chief Michael Mansfield said.

Firefighters found heavy flames and smoke in the two family building, when they arrived at the scene. All five residents were safely out of the building when the department arrived, the chief said.

Firefighters responded to the size of the fire by striking a second alarm. Firefighters from Lawrence, Tewksbury and North Andover responded, while Methuen, Lawrence, Reading and Wilmington firefighters covered Andover stations.

The fire was extinguished around 5 p.m. but firefighters were still on the scene as of 8 p.m.

The five residents are temporarily displaced. Family and friends are assisting them.

Both units were damaged by the fire, including extensive fire, smoke and water damage in the unit where it began. Mansfield estimated the damage at $325,000.

"The initial investigation indicates that the fire started on the first floor," according to the news release. "The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Andover Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal's Office."

Mansfield praised the Andover firefighters and other responding departments.
