To our APS kindergarten families,

I understand a communication was distributed this week with information stating the first day of the 2021-22 school year for kindergarten students would be on Tuesday, September 7th.

I recognize that Tuesday, September 7th is the first day of Rosh Hashanah and we deeply regret the error. The School Committee policy on Religious and Ethnic Observances includes not scheduling the first day of school on religious holidays, and these dates were not approved by them. We will be working to align the first day of kindergarten with the policies set forth by the School Committee.

As APS serves children from many different religious and ethnic backgrounds, I apologize for this oversight and appreciate your patience. We will be changing the first day of school for our kindergarten students only and our elementary principals will communicate the new date as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Magda Parvey

Superintendent
