Andover Reopens Warming Stations As 30% Of Town Waits For Power

The town will issue an alert around 5 am tomorrow mornig on whether or not schools will reopen on Thursday.

ANDOVER, MA -- At 7:30 pm Wednesday, 3,106 of Nationa Grid's 14,041 customers in Andover still had no power, and the utility was still estimating that full service would not be restored until 11:45 pm Thursday. With temperatures predicted to be warmer tonight than last night, when they dropped below freezing,the town said it would close the warming and charging station at the Memorial Hall Library at 9 pm and the Senior Center at 11 pm.

Refreshments and warm food are being served at the Senior Center at 30 Whittier Court. Residents who need a ride should call 978-623-8320 to arrange for transportation. The Senior Center will reopen at 5:00 am Thursday to serve as a warming and charging station. Transportation services will be available starting at 8:00 am.

Andover officials said they would wait until early Thursday morning to make a decision on whether or not to keep schools closed for the fourth day this week. A decision is expected by 5 am, the town said.
