Andover School Committee Reaches Agreement With Claudia Bach

Dr. Bach returns to APS as interim superintendent on January 1, 2021.

Andover, Mass. – The Andover School Committee has reached an agreement with Dr. Claudia Bach to return to the district in January, 2021. Dr. Bach will serve as interim superintendent for Andover Public Schools as the search launches for a permanent superintendent.

“We are pleased that Dr. Bach is committed to our students and educators. Her willingness to accept the challenges of leading a district during the COVID-19 pandemic is a testament to her devotion to the Andover community,” notes School Committee Chairperson Shannon Scully. “Even though it is a temporary position, we look forward to her returning to bring stability during this time.”

Dr. Bach’s contract will begin in January and will remain in effect until June, 2021, when the School Committee anticipates a permanent superintendent will begin leadership of the district.

“I am honored that the School Committee has appointed me the interim superintendent of Andover Public Schools. I look forward to serving a district dear to my heart,” adds Dr. Bach. “My first responsibility will be ensuring the health and safety of our children as COVID-19 surges. At the same time, I will support our teachers as they work tirelessly to provide the best educational opportunities possible for our students under incredibly challenging conditions. I am eager to reach out to our families so that they can communicate to me their concerns and suggestions. I want to learn what we’ve done well and where we can improve. I am ready to get to work.”

Claudia Bach’s career spans over 20 years with experience in management, strategic planning, and analysis in public education. Currently, Dr. Bach serves on numerous nonprofit boards, including the Board of Trustees for the Pike School in Andover, Massachusetts and the Education Pioneers Alumni Board of Greater Boston.

Additionally, Dr. Bach was the Director of Education Policy, Preparation and Leadership for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and served as the superintendent of Andover Public Schools from 1998-2010.
