Andover, Mass. – At tonight’s meeting, the Andover School Committee voted (5-0) to request formal proposals from qualified firms or consultants to provide executive search services for the permanent position of superintendent for the Andover Public Schools. The Committee also voted to begin the search for an interim superintendent to fill the position from January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021. This meeting was called following last week’s announcement that Dr. Berman would be leaving his position effective December 31, 2020.

“Tonight’s votes are the first steps toward the Committee’s goal of providing a seamless transition of leadership for our staff, students and community,” said School Committee Chairperson Shannon Scully.

The Committee expects review of applications for the interim superintendent position to begin during the week of November 2, 2020 with interviews scheduled in the weeks thereafter. Qualified candidates will need to have a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Superintendent Licensure, a Master’s degree and five years’ experience as a superintendent of schools and/or relevant experience as an assistant superintendent or similar qualifications. The Committee anticipates that the candidate chosen for the interim position will not be considered for the permanent position of superintendent of schools.

“We anticipate a high degree of interest as we look to hire our next superintendent and we value the input of our community,” adds Scully, “We will expect the firm or consultant to facilitate feedback from families, staff, administrators, town employees and community members.
