Clevergreen Cleans Up for the Stars

Two Andover cleaners do quality work...or at least Cameron Diaz thinks so.

When you think about the local movie scene and Hollywood glamour, dry cleaning does not likely come to mind.

However, two Andover residents recently started Clevergreen Professional Dry Cleaners and have tapped into the movie and film industry in and around the Boston area, becoming their go-to dry cleaner. They have handled countless cleaning assignments for locally filmed movies dating back to “My Best Friend’s Girl” starring Kate Hudson and Dane Cook. Currently, Clevergreen is on call for the dry cleaning needs of “Ted” starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis as well as “Here Comes the Boom” starring Kevin James.

Clevergreen owners, Farshad and Roxane Sayan, have been Andover residents for 10 years and in the dry cleaning business for over 30 years. Clevergreen has been in business since 2006 and has locations in Boston, Medford and Cambridge.

Roxane is originally from Los Angeles, California and when she moved to the east coast she missed her connection to the celebrity scene. When the movie industry began to boom in Boston, she jumped on the opportunity to tap back into the business. She began calling around to production companies encouraging them to use Clevergreen Cleaners for all of their on-set dry cleaning needs.

Clevergreen Cleaners is a “green” dry cleaning business using natural gas as their fuel source, recycled steam to heat water and human power only in their sorting and assembly area. “What was really attractive to the production companies was the fact that we are totally green,” said Roxane, “This made a big difference to them.”

It didn’t take long for Clevergreen to make an impression on the studios and stars. Soon enough, Clevergreen was regularly handling the movie industry’s needs and costume departments are now contacting them directly when they come to town.

Not only have the studios come to rely on Clevergreen, but celebrities have taken note of their fine work and are asking to have their personal garments taken care of as well. Cameron Diaz liked the soft feel of her clothes when they came back from Clevergreen and was a proponent of the environmentally friendly nature of the business. According to Roxane, the commitment to being “green” is significant in celebrity circles whose California lifestyle promotes a general sense of healthy living.

The influx of business when the major motion picture hits the area is significant and often times demanding. “It is a lot of work,” Roxane said, “I don’t really get to see my husband.” He has been called at all hours to make a pick up on the set for an item that needs to be cleaned and is required for a shoot the next morning.

In most instances, Farshad and Roxane are working with assistants and costume departments, but they do often get glimpses of the celebrities when picking up and delivering to the set. It helps keeps what they are doing fun and exciting.

Roxane enjoys staying connected with the celebrity scene and supports the business and its continued response to the needs of Hollywood East through marketing and public relations efforts.
