Election 2018: Finegold Reclaims State Senate Seat

The Andover attorney had given up the 2nd Essex Middlesex seat for an unsuccessful run for state treasurer in 2014.

ANDOVER, MA -- Barry Finegold claimed victory Tuesday night in the race for the 2nd Essex Middlesex seat which represents Dracut, Tewksbury, Lawrence and Andover in the state senate. According to unofficial results, Finegold, a Democrat, received 29,587 votes, while Republican nominee Joe Espinola received 15,362 votes.

Finegold gave up seat in 2014 to run for the Democratic nomination for Treasurer and Receiver-General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, losing that race to Deb Goldberg. The seat is currently held by Barbara L'Italien, who opted to not run for reelection as she ran an unsuccessful primary campaign for Congress.
