Gas Main Break on River Road; Homes Evacuated

Andover police said there was a gas main break on River Road Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. near Cross Street. A construction crew may have caused the break, according to reports.

Nearby homes were evacuated. Police urged people to avoid the area.

At about 5:30 p.m., police reported the leak was contained. Residents were allowed back inside their homes, and crews were expected to be at scene throughout the night trying to get gas service back online.
