GLCAC Names New Chief Operating Officer

The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. has named Vilma Martinez-Dominguez as the agency’s new chief operating officer. Martinez-Dominguez has a broad range of experience advocating for the community through her work at the YWCA of Northeastern Massachusetts (formerly the YWCA of Greater Lawrence) and the City of Lawrence.

In her previous roles, she worked on programs, services and resources related to domestic violence, sexual assault, health, social and racial inequities, economic development, community development and housing.

“Vilma is a strong advocate whose background aligns with GLCAC’s mission of opportunity, empowerment and community,’’ said Evelyn Friedman, GLCAC’s executive director. “We are thrilled she is continuing to help the people of Lawrence by joining our team.’’

Most recently, Martinez-Dominguez served as the Lawrence Community Development Director, a position she held for four years.

She previously worked at the YWCA for 24 years, including seven coordinating the city’s health coalition, the Lawrence Mayor’s Health Task Force. The task force is a broad-based collaborative of over 80-member organizations that work to address health inequities and improve the quality of life for Lawrence residents. The task force was later integrated into the city government of Lawrence.

In her new role, Martinez-Dominguez will oversee the agency’s senior management team and program directors in the day-to-day administration and operations of GLCAC’s 17 programs.

GLCAC is a multi-faceted social services agency that assists nearly 33,000 individuals through a range of programs including early childhood education, fuel assistance, WIC nutrition assistance, immigration services, lead poisoning prevention, child abuse prevention, English-language lessons, and consumer protection.
