GLCAC Offers Tax Prep Assistance
Available to qualifying individuals generally earning $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited-English-speaking taxpayers
The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc. will be offering free tax preparation assistance for low- to moderate-income families and individuals.
GLCAC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program includes a team of IRS-certified volunteers that provides free basic federal and state income tax return preparation to qualified individuals. The program runs from Feb. 1, 2022, through April 15, 2022.
VITA is available to qualifying individuals generally earning $57,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited-English-speaking taxpayers.
“Volunteers for GLCAC’s VITA program work with clients to ensure they are claiming valuable tax credits and receiving the refunds they deserve,’’ said Evelyn Friedman, GLCAC’s Executive Director. “By keeping more of their hard-earned money, clients will have more resources to pay bills, cover essential needs such as rent, and save for the future.’’
GLCAC is also seeking volunteers with experience preparing personal income tax returns to work with clients to file their tax returns.

VITA services will be available from Feb. 1 through April 15 Monday through Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clients need to provide copies of the following documents:
· Proof of identification – photo ID
· Social Security cards for the client, client’s spouse and any dependents.
· Wage and earning statement(s): Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from all employers.
· 1099G unemployment form
· 1099-INT bank interest earned, if applicable
· A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
· Forms 1095 A, B, and C, health coverage statement
· Letter 6419 Advance child tax credit (NEW)
· Letter 6475 Economic impact payments (NEW)
GLCAC is a multi-faceted social services agency that assists more than 32,000 individuals through a range of programs including early childhood education, fuel assistance, WIC nutrition assistance, immigration services, lead poisoning prevention, child abuse prevention, English-language lessons, and consumer protection.
