Greater Lawrence Tech Senior Presidential Scholar Semifinalist
Greater Lawrence Tech senior Saviel Ortiz was one of five Massachusetts finalists for the award.

ANDOVER, MA — Greater Lawrence Technical High School Senior Saviel Ortiz was named a Presidential Scholar semifinalist, Superintendent John Lavoie said.
The Presidential Scholars program recognizes up to 161 students. In 2015 it was expanded to include Career and Technical Education Presidential Scholars.
Ortiz is one of 620 semifinalists and five Massachusetts finalists. The scholars will be announced later in the school year.

“Saviel is an incredibly hard working student, and has demonstrated both a love of learning and a natural inclination toward leadership,” Superintendent Lavoie said in a statement. “To be named a semifinalist is a wonderful honor, and we’re thrilled to see him recognized this way.”
Ortiz is planning to study business management with a concentration in finance at either UMass Lowell or UMass Boston. He students business technology at Greater Lawrence Tech.

Ortiz took part in a co-op as a Bank Specialist at Reading Cooperative Bank and served as vice presdient of the school’s National Honor Society and Class of 2020. He is also a GLTS swim team captain, a member of the school’s “Interact” community service club and a Youth Ambassador at Top Notch Scholars.
In 2017, Ortiz’s brother, Alkenly Ortiz, was also named a Presidential Scholar semi-finalist.
