Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Lawrence celebrates 10 years.

The Essex County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Lawrence is celebrating its tenth year at their 647 Andover Street location. The store, which is open to the public, sells and accepts donations of new or gently used furniture, appliances, cabinets, building materials, and housewares. All proceeds from sales of donated merchandise directly support Habitat’s mission of providing affordable housing throughout Essex County.

The ReStore first opened on March 31, 2011 at its original location of 4 Union Street in Lawrence, and then moved to its current location on Andover Street and held its grand re-opening on November 16, 2013. Since then, it has provided the community with an affordable way to outfit their homes and do construction or DIY projects on a budget by offering discounted prices on all merchandise.

ReStore Director Jim Kapelson explained “We have such a unique selection here – not only compared to other thrift shops, but also compared to many of the other area ReStores. We have aisles full of doors and windows, a wall of random lumber, full sets of cabinets, a huge selection of lighting. What makes it fun, is you never know what you’ll find here from day to day. We might get in 4 like-new washing machines on a Tuesday and they’ll be gone by Wednesday!”

He adds that they are fortunate to have wonderful donors. In addition to generous area homeowners, they have formed great relationships with local businesses, that together, keep the ReStore sales floor full. Businesses donate their brand new but overstocked inventory or misorders and are able to receive a tax deduction. Not only are donors supporting the non-profit’s mission, but they are keeping tons of still usable goods out of the landfill.

“We are thankful to the shoppers, donors and volunteers who have been a part of the Lawrence ReStore story over the last 10-plus years,” expressed Executive Director Meegan O’Neil. “Because of their ongoing support, we have been and will continue to be able to build homes so that hardworking families in Essex County can live affordably.”

To celebrate this milestone, the ReStore will be holding a “Cheers to 10 years” anniversary sale on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18, from 10am – 5pm. Everything in the store (some exclusions apply) will be priced up to 75% off their already discounted prices. All shoppers are welcome!
