I-495 North Reopened After Rollover, Car Fire

Police said debris is spread across the whole highway near the I-93 ramp.

ANDOVER, MA — I-495 North has been reopened in Andover following a rollover with a car fire, State Police said. One car was fully engulfed on the ramp to I-93, and another was on its roof on the left lane of 495.

Police said there were minor injuries.

At 12:19 p.m., someone called Andover Fire Rescue to report a crash on Interstate 495 northbound near exit 40. When the arrived, firefighters saw an overturned Toyota pickup truck in the left travel lane and a Kia hatchback burning on a nearby exit ramp.

Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames and provide aid to the individuals involved in the crash, said Fire Chief Michael Mansfield in a release.

A preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police indicated that the Kia was cut off by a driver in a third car before correcting and hitting the pickup truck, causing the truck to roll over. After the collision the Kia then caught fire.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening, according to police.
