I-93 Andover Crash Kills 27-Year-Old

A New Hampshire man is dead after rear-ending a MassDOT vehicle assisting with another crash, police said.

ANDOVER, MA — There was a fatal crash Tuesday evening involving a MassDOT help van tow truck on I-93 in Andover, State Police said Wednesday night. Troopers from the Andover barracks responded to the crash, which occurred around 6:20 p.m. just prior to Exit 44.

Preliminary investigation indicted a 2009 Ford Focus was traveling on 93 South when it rear-ended a MassDOT help van flatbed tow truck in the left travel lane. The truck was assisting with a minor crash in the left lane.

The operator of the Focus, 27-year-old Shannon Jackson of Manchester, NH, was airlifted to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The van operator was uninjured.

The crash is being investigated, but speed is believed to be a factor, police said.
